Our gardens provide an array of natural spaces and unique locations to host your next event, wedding, function or corporate away day.
We have some beautiful, whimsical areas of the gardens to say 'I do' to your significant other. Or if you want to celebrate a special birthday or anniversary we have spaces for this as well.
Looking for a bright space in an uncommon venue? Nestled in the treetops or native bush we have rooms to host your next meeting or seminar.
There are many wide open spaces for a group picnic or large casual group gathering. These types of events still need to be booked for use.
On occasion we do host exhibitions and workshops in our spaces. Get in touch to enquire.

The Begonia House is a unique venue located within the Lady Norwood Rose Garden at Wellington Botanic Garden.
With classic temperate plant displays and lush greenery, the space can be transformed into a delightful space for your special event.
The foyer is available for formal and corporate functions such as milestone birthdays (not available for 21st birthday parties), anniversaries, conferences, exhibitions and formal dinners after it has closed to the public.
The space has the capacity for 80 guests seated or 100 guests standing.
Built in 1960, the Begonia House is a stunning venue located just minutes from the central city within the Lady Norwood Rose Garden at Wellington Botanic Garden.
Filled with gorgeous tropical plants, hanging baskets and floral displays, this is a stunning location for weddings, civil unions or formal dinners outside of public opening hours.
The Cockayne Lawn at Ōtari-Wilton's Bush in Wilton is an intimate outdoor space for up to 50 people. The manicured lawn is perfect for wedding ceremonies surrounded by rock gardens and native bush.
The Dell is a large outdoor space located behind the Begonia House at Wellington Botanic Garden. It's a great place for a large wedding event and includes a stage.
With capacity for up to 250 guests, you can be sure no one will miss out on your special day. Marquee use is permitted over the summer months.
This intimate location offers a standing only space for ceremonies. A small pergola fits up to five people maximum with limited shelter.
Up to 20 guests can gather comfortably around the duck pond.
Near the main floral displays the fragrant garden is a cosy area where up to 15 guests can enjoy an intimate ceremony surrounded by a fragrant sensory experience.
If you want to get married surrounded by bright and colourful seasonal flowers, the Floral Display Gardens can host up to 30 guests depending on specific location.
A part of our main seasonal display this spacious and well manicured area offers a myriad of opportunities for casual and fun events.
Tucked away in a secluded nook at the top of the Rose Garden, the Herb Garden is an idyllic spot for small weddings.
With sweeping views over the roses and a view towards the harbour, the Herb Garden is a charming spot for up to 20 guests.
There is a water feature as well as a lookout viewing platform.

This formal garden offers 300 varieties of heritage and modern roses which are in full bloom from October to March.
You can nestle up to 20 guests between the florals and experience nuptial bliss whilst surrounded by roses.
This lush forest venue is located near to the Visitor Centre at Ōtari-Wilton's Bush. This quirky area is on a sloped lawn and can accommodate up to 20 guests.
The Magpie Lawn is great for large outdoor events and special occasions with a capacity of up to 250 guests.
A spacious outdoor venue, it's located above the garden's Glenmore Street west entrance, and below the Mariri Road entrance.
You can really get creative with this area as we allow gas BBQs and food trucks.
A tranquil water garden situated behind the Rose Garden, the Peace Flame Garden is perfect for a close gathering of up to 15 people.
The area is filled with waterfalls, fountains, and aquatic greenery. Standing room only.
The Puriri Lawn is a lovely, sun-dappled lawn area sheltered by a large puriri tree.
It can be hired in addition to the Duck Pond area and accommodates up to 150 guests.
Intimate lawn overlooking the Soundshell and Main Gardens beds. Ideal for a small group of up to 15.
For large weddings with a capacity of 250 people. Offers both a sheltered, sun dappled lawn and sweeping views over the city. Scents of rosemary, lavender, and oak will surround you on your special day.
The Soundshell sits inside the Founders Entrance to the garden off Glenmore Street. It is an ideal space for small wedding groups (under 20) and formal outdoor functions. Recite your nuptials in one of Wellington’s most iconic venues.
Located inside the Treehouse Visitor Centre, this is an ideal space for your next offsite meeting. With natural lighting and plenty of whiteboards, this is a great space to make breakthroughs. The seminar room is perfect for training sessions, workshops, seminars, and planning days.

Nestled in Ōtari-Wilton's Bush, the Leonard Cockayne Centre is the perfect place to ground your next meeting. This intimate space is excellent for team planning days, workshops, discussion groups and education sessions.

Surround yourself in native plants and birdlife at the Troup Picnic Area. This picturesque spot is on the Circular walk along the Kaiwharawhara stream. The picnic area has electric barbecues, a water fountain, toilets, and a small covered area. The shared open space is ideal for groups and school visits, picnics, and barbeques.
Although bookings are not required, groups should advise the Treehouse Visitor Centre of intended visits.

Wellington Botanic Garden
Surrounded by mature pohutukawas and pines, this spacious lawn takes you away from the busy city. Magpie Lawn is an ideal spot for your next company picnic, team-building day or barbecue. With drive-on access, you can easily get your gear, and guest with accessibility needs to the event. It's located above the Garden's Glenmore Street West entrance and below the Mariri Road entrance.
Surrounded by mature trees and lush green understory The Dell is a perfect space for your next large gathering. The Dell has a stage and easy access to power, water and toilets. During the summer months, marquees and food trucks can set up on the lawn to entertain and shelter your guests. This venue is perfect for large picnics, functions and performances.
Sweeping expanse of grass encircled by lush magnolias and echinops. Perfect spot for a sunny, moderately sheltered picnic. Popular spot with locals and tourists alike. No ball sports.
A popular high foot traffic area. Stately footpaths, a fountain, and a gazebo are part of this area. Lush bedding in any season but Winter.
An airy space dedicated to educational exhibitions. Shares with the Botanic Garden Shop. Accessible by lift.
Has been used for more avant garde art exhibitions. Impressive and unique foyer surrounded by tropical plant displays. Note: humid and damp.
A small indoor exhibition space. Opens out onto the expansive native tree canopy deck.

Commercial filming is allowed at the Botanic Gardens, but you do need a permit.
These are issued directly by Screen Wellington who are very familiar with our spaces and procedures.
Our lush garden landscapes are perfect for wedding and celebration photography. Photo shoots, engagement shoots, family pictures and cos play are just some of the moments that have been captured here.
These are charged at a reasonable rate.

Media and Press are allowed to film on our premises without a permit. Out of courtesy, please do let us know when you are planning to come so we can manage any other booking which may coincide with your filming.
